Frequently asked questions
The questions most people start with.
If you don't find what you're looking for here, call the office — we'd rather answer your question directly than guess at it on a webpage.
Getting started
What happens on a first visit?+
The first visit is up to 60 minutes — in-office or via secure telehealth. We go through your full health timeline — childhood through today — your family history, dietary patterns, sleep, stress, environmental exposures, and current symptoms. We’ll review any prior labs you bring and order indicated functional testing.
You leave with a clear sense of the working hypothesis and the next steps. We don’t usually start treatment in the first visit — that comes after the labs come back, two to three weeks later.
Do I need a referral?+
No. You can self-refer directly. Most of our patients do.
Can I do appointments via telehealth?+
Yes. Both new-patient consultations and follow-ups are available via secure telehealth for patients in Florida — or in-office at the Sunrise clinic, whichever you prefer. Acupuncture, of course, requires an in-office visit.
Testing
What kinds of functional medicine testing do we provide?+
We work with seven primary panels:
- Comprehensive Stool Testing — microbiome, parasites, inflammation, leaky gut markers
- Comprehensive Hormone Testing — DUTCH and Rupa, full HPA-axis with metabolites
- Adrenal & Cortisol Rhythm — four-point salivary curve plus DHEA-S
- Nutrient & Micronutrient Testing — cellular, not just serum
- OAT (Organic Acids Test) — mitochondrial, neurotransmitter, oxidative stress
- Mold & Mycotoxin Panel — urine-based environmental exposure
- Food Sensitivity & IgG — 96-food panel with cross-reactivity
What does the chemical (mycotoxin) test offer?+
The mycotoxin / chemical panel measures urine biomarkers for environmental mold toxins, glyphosate, and selected industrial chemicals. It’s particularly useful for patients with unexplained chronic fatigue, brain fog, hormonal disruption, or histamine intolerance — especially when there’s a known water-damaged-building exposure in the patient’s history.
How long does it take to get results?+
Most labs return within 2–3 weeks. We schedule a results-review visit once everything is in.
Cost & insurance
Does insurance cover the visits?+
The practice operates on an out-of-network basis. We’ll provide you with a superbill after each visit that you can submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement, depending on your plan.
HSA and FSA accounts are accepted. Many functional labs also offer cash pricing that’s lower than insurance billing.
What does it cost?+
New-patient consultations are $425. Follow-ups are $185. Acupuncture sessions are $145 (package pricing available). Testing is billed separately by the lab — we always discuss expected costs before ordering.
About our care
Do you treat children?+
Yes. We have a dedicated pediatric track, with particular experience in autism, ADHD, and pediatric digestive presentations.
Do you offer peptide therapy?+
Yes, where indicated. We prescribe peptides for repair, recovery, metabolic and cognitive support, immune modulation, and longevity. We don’t prescribe peptides as wellness products — they require labs and clinical justification.
Our peptide programs include customized nutritional guides, diet support, supportive supplements, and peptide education and ongoing support. Peptides exist as RUO (research use only), are not FDA-approved, and are for self research use only.
