Sometimes standard tests are not enough. Testing is a key way to understand one’s disease process. Innovative tests can be very valuable in identifying undetected causes of ailments. Functional Medicine is when you use these tests to understand the biochemistry behind a disease process and then apply the corresponding care to correct the imbalances.

In Functional Medicine, we also work in functional ranges versus regular laboratory ranges. This range is smaller and is where that marker is optimal. If you are normal-lab-low or normal-lab-high, this is a gray area where you may not be fully diseased or diagnosable, but you are beginning to experience symptoms. This testing is a comprehensive evaluation that detects mitochondrial deficits which can attribute to many chronic ailments. It checks for neurotransmitters that affect mood and brain health. It checks for nutritional and antioxidant biomarkers, fat metabolism, methylation issues, fungal and bacterial infections, oxalates, and other markers that play a key role in inflammation, immune health, neurological development, and overall health.
